Are you above or below the Average Annual Income?

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median weekly income for full-time workers was $49,764 for 2019.  That took into account 115.9 million workers.

The average annual income for professionals and management, with the highest income category, are $80,915 for men and $59,176 for women.

The average annual income for the service worker category is $34,632 for men and $29,068 for women.

Remember that this is the average. A salary in one high cost-of-living city such as New York City, may not be very much compared to the same salary amount in the Midwest US.

What does this mean? Well, these numbers were for the year and were pre-pandemic. As we all know the service worker industry is taking a severe hit in employment and salaries.

If you are in the service industry, recently graduating from high school and looking for career guidance, you may want to consider these factors. I hear a lot about student loans for college and while I agree they can be outrageous, these numbers are one indication that a professional and management career will pay more than $30,000 a year, on average for women, and $$45,000 a year for men.

Of course, college degrees do not guarantee employment and you do not necessarily need a college degree to get a professional or management job, but a college degree will improve your chances if you choose your field appropriately.
